It was complicated – but not in a way I was expecting. This is a novel I will have to read at least twice, and slowly, to come to any firm conclusions about what Gordimer was trying to do. born or made, and whether sport is really character building. For real understanding of sport psychology, it is necessary to have a reasonable understanding of the nature of psychology itself. One of the things I have tried to do in this second edition is to put across to those new to studying psychology at this level the nature of the disci-pline.
